2025年度の海外研修b（オーストラリア）に参加した学生たちは、実り多く充実した成果を携えて帰国しました。
今回で4回目となる研修は、受け入れ先であるSJCC(セントジョセフカトリックカレッジ・ゴスフォード)のオープンハートの精神によって成り立っています。カレッジの生徒の合計７家族が学生を家族として、また、多くの授業で星稜生を生徒として受け入れていただきました。
その成果報告会が行われ、学生が得たコミュニケーションへの気づきや教えることの楽しさ、周囲への感謝の気持ちをスピーチしました。

The students who participated in the 2025 Overseas Training Program b (Australia) returned with many valuable and meaningful outcomes. This fourth iteration of the program was made possible through the open-hearted spirit of our host institution, SJCC (St Joseph’s Catholic College, Gosford). A total of seven families graciously welcomed our students as members of their own households, and many classes provided opportunities for meaningful engagement and participation. At the program’s report session, the students delivered speeches reflecting on their experiences, sharing their insights into communication, the joy of teaching, and their gratitude toward those who supported them.

海外で初めて日本文化を教えるという新しい経験を通し、教えることの喜びを見出すことができました。実際に授業を行い、生徒たちが楽しそうに反応してくれる姿を見て、教えることは本当に楽しいことなのだと実感しました。
Teaching Japanese culture overseas for the first time was a new experience for me, and it helped me discover the joy of teaching. When I actually taught the class and saw the students reacting with enjoyment, I realized that teaching is truly fun.

オーストラリアに行って、新しい自分に出会えました。英語で明るく笑顔で話せている自分に驚いたし、違う言語で伝えるのってこんなに楽しいんだ！と感動しました。このプログラムのおかげで、自分を信じる力がついた気がします。
I discovered a new side of myself in Australia: someone who could speak English confidently, cheerfully, and with a smile. Through this overseas program, I learned how enjoyable it is to communicate in a different language, and I believe that I gained real confidence in myself.

SJCCでの数学の授業中、「Holiday Loading」というトピックに出会いました。これは有給休暇の手当に関するオーストラリア特有の計算で、その実用性の高さに感銘を受けました。日本の数学教育は抽象的な理論が中心ですが、現地では生活に直結した「生きた知識」を重視しているようです。他にも外来種問題など、社会に密着した題材が多く扱われており、教育の優先順位の違いを実感しました。
わずか1週間の滞在でしたが、この発見を機に世界の教育システムへの興味が深まりました。
When I participated in a math class at SJCC, I noticed that the chapter title was “Holiday Loading.” I had never heard of it before, and even after reading the math problem, I did not fully understand what it meant at first. As my friend and I were trying to figure it out, the teacher kindly came over to help us. Based on the teacher’s explanation and my later research, I learned that “Holiday Loading” is a system unique to Australia. It relates to the wages paid during paid leave, and I realized that the students were learning something very practical. In Japanese junior high school math classes, we often study topics like factorization or probability, which do not seem directly applicable to everyday life at first glance. In Japan, matters such as calculating paid leave wages are typically learned independently at university. At SJCC, I also noticed that in other subjects, students studied topics closely connected to daily life, such as the impact of invasive species. Although I was there for only one week and cannot fully judge, I felt that educational priorities may differ from those in Japan. This experience made me interested in learning more about what students study in other countries and in other schools in Australia.
