【地域連携／ボランティア】星稜カフェ in 珠洲市若山公民館 ～能登復興に向けた学生たちの取り組み（第2弾）～

2024年に発生した能登半島地震からの復興を願い、星稜大学の学生によるボランティア活動「星稜カフェ」第2弾を、7月に続いて珠洲市若山公民館で開催しました。今回は、人文学部・中原ゼミ、経済学部・張ゼミ、また外国人留学生を含む計9名の学生が参加しました。
当日は予定より早く到着したため、公民館の方と相談し、周辺の仮設住宅を見学させていただきました。初めて仮設住宅を目にした留学生は強い衝撃を受け、思わず涙ぐむ場面もありました。
見学中には雑草や落ち葉などのごみが目についたことから、「時間もあるので掃除をしましょう」と学生から提案があり、公民館から手袋やほうきなどをお借りして急きょ清掃活動を実施しました。約30分ほどの作業で5袋分のごみを集めることができ、住民の方から「本当に助かりました、ありがとう」と声をかけていただきました。
見学中には雑草や落ち葉などのごみが目についたことから、「時間もあるので掃除をしましょう」と学生から提案があり、公民館から手袋やほうきなどをお借りして急きょ清掃活動を実施しました。約30分ほどの作業で5袋分のごみを集めることができ、住民の方から「本当に助かりました、ありがとう」と声をかけていただきました。
予定時刻になると、地域の60～70代の方5名が来館され、学生たちとお茶を囲みながら1時間ほど交流のひとときを過ごしました。「街の明かりが消えて夜が怖い」、「仕事がなく若い人がどんどん離れてしまう」、「年配の人だけが残ってしまった」といった現状の声が寄せられる一方、「来てくれてありがとう」、「支えられていると感じる」という温かい言葉もいただきました
その後は、参加者全員で「いきいき100歳体操」を実施しました。腕や脚に重りをつけて筋肉を鍛えるプログラムで、学生たちも楽しく汗を流しながら取り組みました。
地元の方からは「また来てください」という言葉もありましたが、「なにも質問が無かった。私たちに聞きたいことはないのか？」という言葉もありました。若い学生が「現地に行くだけ」から一歩進め、学生から質問が出るような指導も必要だと考えています。 今回の活動は第2弾となり、今後も3～4か月に一度のペースで継続的に開催していく予定です。学生たちの若い力と交流の場が、地域の皆さまの心の支えとなり、復興の一助となることを願い、引き続き取り組んでまいります。

I went to the Noto region as a volunteer. By actually visiting Noto, I was able to learn about the current situation that cannot be known through television or social media.
Listening to the stories of the residents, I learned about the sadness of having places they knew and loved demolished with public funds, the presence of precious loved ones who might have survived had the disaster not occurred, and the terror of the darkness at night. These are aspects that are not publicized on TV or social media. They were things I could only know by listening directly to the residents. I feel truly fortunate that I was able to learn about these things through my volunteer work.
I am genuinely glad that I had the opportunity to interact with people who are living lives so completely different from mine, despite being in the same prefecture. I am so glad I participated in this volunteer activity.

今回のボランティアでは、珠洲市がどんな町でどんな現状なのかを沢山知ることができました。もうすぐ震災から2年経つところですが、まだまだ震災の爪痕は多く残っていて、道がガタガタだったり、仮設住宅が沢山あったりと、復興途中であることを見ることができました。それでも珠洲市は自然豊かで地元の方々も優しく、とてもいい町だと感じました。
地元の住民からお話を聞いたら、震災の過酷さや不便さの話を聞き、改めて、災害は人の人生を大きく変えてしまうものなんだと実感しました。ただ今回、話し相手になったり、掃除を行ったりしたことで、地元の方々を楽しませたり、笑顔にすることが出来たと思うので、とてもいいボランティア活動になりました。これからまたこのようなボランティアがあったら積極的に参加し、復興に少しでも貢献していきたいと思います。

Meeting and listening to the stories of such tremendous and strong people, who courageously overcame the natural disaster that occurred in January 2024, was both inspiring and heart-wrenching. It was difficult to comprehend that the narratives I was hearing came from to the people sitting right beside me. Their stories were a powerful reminder of how easily the forces of nature can disrupt the foundations of our lives—our homes, our security, and our dreams.
Today’s experience solidified two things for me: first, it motivated me to improve my Japanese. And second, it confirmed my commitment to a life of service, dedicated to helping others in any way I can.
