In Japan, students are required to learn a foreign language, primarily English, from elementary school through university. But do you know why English is learned in this way? Have you ever considered how learning a second language has affected your life, your brain, and your identity? You will be asked to use your own experiences in learning a second language and connect it with research from the field of second language acquisition to better understand your own learning and your future learning. 

This seminar focuses on the psychology of language learning. Students will learn about how society and emotions affect lanugage learning and conduct original guided research on a topic of their choosing. Not only will this seminar help students understand their own lanugage learning, but the content from this class can be applied to their developing their future social and emotional selves.
